A couple of days ago HOMBRE presented his all time TopFive of records. And now I‘ve had a tough time picking my highlights. This wasn‘t easy being a lover of Heavy Metal, Hip Hop and a fan of good music in general. But a man‘s gotta do, what a man‘s gotta do. Drumroll for my alltime TopFive:
1. DR.DRE – 2001
In my eyes this is the game changer of the boss himself. Those beats are more than just music in my ears and I think that there is no other record that I‘ve listened to more often in my life than this baby. Still D.R.E.!
2. BEGINNER – Bambule
In my mind there are really quite a lot of awesome German Hip Hop records out there, but Bambule is the one where you can hit the play button even after a couple of years and you will still be able to rap along all the way. I‘m looking forward to the time when a couple of sixty year olds will be going to concerts with those famous „Mongo Cligge“ shirts on. And I‘ll be one of them.
3. AC/DC – Blow up your Video
I grew up in a small village in the former GDR, which resulted in me always having been surrounded by heavies in my youth. We painted our jeans jackets, went to our local youth club and played air guitar. AC/DC were an institution and still are, and after a show of those Aussie oldies my neck is still in pain and I feel alive, young and great.
4. CURTIS MAYFIELD – Superfly
I just love Funk & Soul and as a writer there mostly is no better sound to paint to in the sun than Curtis Mayfield. Happy tunes for happy times.
5. CYPRESS HILL – Temples of Boom
Those guys taught me a long time ago that there is more than Metal and Hardcore. Stuff called Rap and Hip Hop. Yes, they are mostly talking about smoking weed, I know. But Cypress Hill gets me every time with their very own sound and are the bomb live on stage.
BOUNSALBUM:
ERZGEBIRGS-WEIHNACHT (Christmas in the Ore Mountains)
Some of you will be laughing out loud, but this thing definitely has to be on everybody’s playlist who grew up in my hood – the Ore Mountains. And I bet that all of my buddies from Saxony know those tracks. This record is a piece of local culture and brings a lot of childhood memories back to me. Until today it’s a timeless piece music history from the Christmas Country „Erzgebirge“. Represent!
