After we´ve talked about our favorite books last time, this is our second round of Top5 here. This time it´s about the soundtrack of our life’s. Our fave records. No matter if we are painting, chilling or in the car – this is the Homboog soundtrack.
And the character dude is getting it started:
HOMBRE’S TOP FIVE
- NAS – It was written
This was definitely one of my first rap records that got me hooked. For most guys Illmatic was and still is the milestone, but my alltime favorite is “It was written”. In 1996 this was the only record playing for me for 12 month – at least it feels like it now. And this is definitely no insider and most of you will have already listened to those dope tracks. When it was time to decide if you were with Nas or Hova, my decision had already been made.
2. Dynamite Deluxe – Deluxe Soundsystem
I was and still am a huge fan of German rap. Lyrics that I am able to understand without any doubt. Guys from a surrounding more similar to mine than the Bronx. Boys in the videos who you know and pieces in the background that you also had in your black book. It was the turn of the millennium and this sound paired with this voice and this attitude still makes me nod my head ‘til it hurts. Just for the track “Wie jetzt” it will always be in my personal Hall of Fame.
3. Phil Collins – No jacket required
I know that most of you have already started to laugh now, but people who have been painting next to me know that synthie beats and those eighties vibes are a must for me while painting. Those positive vibes and over the top beats – you´d make 3 songs out of them nowadays. And if you´re trying to tell me that “Sussudio” did not get you to at least move your little toe, I guess you´re lying.
4. Pacewon & Mr Green – The only color that matters is green
This might be the only record that some of you don´t know yet. Definitely underrated – it just wasn´t as successful as it would have deserved to be. This is a record you can listen through all the way without the urge to skip forward. This is the soundtrack to my first visit to NYC and listening to it, it just brings back all those great memories.
5. Ghostface Killah & Raekwon – r.a.g.u.
A TOP FIVE without the Wu is just not a TOP FIVE. With this not so famous record I just hope to bring a couple of new fave tracks to your playlists. If you do enjoy the flow of those two dudes, you´ll definitely enjoy those tracks. Uncompromising and rough – it´s the symbol again, the W
