ECUADOR Pt.2

Back from the Amazon Rainforest I was able to squeeze in another graff day. Sometimes a not so well worked out flight schedule can be a blessing. So we made a quick stop at the airport pharmacy – just picking up some ecuadorian hardcore medicine for the wifey’s stomach – and off we went with the taxi. Taxis are actually quite cheap compared to Europe. But if you have a little more time than we did, taking the bus is even cheaper. So we dumped everything in our hotel, grabbed something to eat and off I went to my next graff date. I met up with a well known local guy called APITATAN – he’s a super talented character painter and also a great human. We wanted to do something quick, but first of all it started to rain and on the other hand we got carried away from our passion for graffiti. So we kept on going till late at night with an afterhour at his studio. And I’ve got to say that I am really happy with this colabo and the outcome. Sometimes two writers just click and work really well together. Thanks again for the print, amigo! So I can definitely say that Ecuador was a great time regarding graffiti. Anyways – you can always paint more and there were some spots that I’d loved to paint. But next up on our list was Galapagos.

This group of smaller and bigger islands is approx. 1100km away from the mainland and one big national park. We landed on Baltra and took a bus, taxiboat and taxi to get to our lodge on the island of Santa Cruz. We were greated by a giant turtle in the garden – they roam around the lodge free and do sound a lot like Darth Vader. After a quick stop we went to Puerto Ayora where we saw marin iguanas, pelicans and sealions hanging around the harbor waiting for fish. This was the moment we realized we were in a giant zoo – just without walls or fences and with very trusting animals. From here we took the boat which was more like a small yacht with too many passangers for two hours to Isla Isabella. Thank God for chewing gum against sea sickness and music from our iPhones. But the ride was so worth it. Isabela is very original with just a few tourists and a paradies. Arriving there we saw swimming penguins and sealions. What a start! I can’t just recommend enough to take a snorkeling trip to the lava tunels Los Tuneles. Here you can just go with a local guide, but this is a good thing, cause he’ll show you everything you won’t be able to see by yourself. Snorkeling with giant turtles, golden rays, sharks, seahorses, tons of colorful fishes and penguins was almost unbelievable and a once of a lifetime experience. It was sad that our trip had to end with an earthquake at the airport of Guayaquil. We were lucky to have been able to leave the airport two hours after the first earthquake of 7.8 with the last flight being able to start that night. Keeping our fingers crossed that our ecuadorian friends will be able to get back to normal as fast as possible.
