BRING THE PAINT /// Leicester (UK)

Like most of you guys I heard of Leicester a lot in 2016 when the local football team suprised us with great skills and sportsmanship winning the british premier league title. But I didn´t expect that I was going to learn so much more about this place with 300.000 inhabitants until I received an invitation to the BRING THE PAINT festival at the beginning of this year. The United Kingdom had already won my heart during my stay in London last year. So there was no question: Team Homboog was in! So I jumped on an Easyjet flight from Basel to London Luton and after a 1h trainride I arrived in industrial town of Leicester – one of the cities with the biggest ethnical diversity in the whole country. With 40% of immigrants they are a role model for tolerance.

Izzy, the owner of the local graff shop GRAFFHQ, picked me up at the trainstation and I was right away included in the festival family. Old and new companions such as CAN 2, SMUG, INKIE, WON ABC, VOYDER, RELMS or GENT48 joined the painter crowd and I was ready to start 5 wicked and colourful days. Besides our big HOMBOOG mural we naturally tried to paint as many walls as possible, because those typical english brick walls were just screaming for colour being a dream of each writer! Alone or in small teams we painted until sunday night – as much as we could – and had an amazing time with lots of laughter, great conversations, drinks and made plans for the future. It´s about time to say THANK YOU to IZZY and her amazing team for your amazing work, for being an awesome host, for taking great care of us – there was nothing missing – and for the fantastic time in Leicester City! We´d definitely love to come back!
